Q/A with Nik Marando

The famous Philadelphia restaurant chain Chickie’s and Pete’s recently opened to the public at 220 Rowan Blvd in Glassboro, NJ. The famous sports bar was voted by ESPN as the number one sports bar in the USA.

The newly opened restaurant is right in the heart of Rowan University. It is the first ever Chickie’s & Pete’s located on a college campus, and the fourth location in New Jersey.

With the start of the semester beginning, the recent opening has created a heavy buzz around campus lately. With Landmark being the only other bar walking distance surrounding campus, there is definitely a heavy interest from students speculating if this can be possibly a new spot.

After eating here two separate times, I went in to get a deeper look into the new restaurant.

I spoke to a food runner named Nik Mirando, a 20 year-old business student from Middletown, NJ.

Q:What made you decide to work here?

A: I applied because here because I needed a job at school?  I saw a flyer for a job fair, so I figured that a new restaurant would be hiring a lot of employees.

Q: What’s a typical day like in ur job?

A: The weekdays are usually a lot slower than on the weekends, but as a food runner we mainly stay in the kitchen until the food is ready for tables, and we then go out to run it out to them.

Q: How would describe Chickie’s & Pete’s to somebody who’s never been here?

A: A real cool restaurant, and bar. The food is really good. The atmosphere in the restaurant is definitely family friendly, and the bar area is a nice spot late night for college students.

Q: What’s your favorite meal on the menu?

A: Lobster Cheesesteak with a side of crab fries.
